Why are $5 gift cards only available on paid plans?
The $5 gift card option is currently available only on paid plans for a few important reasons:
Fraud Prevention
Unfortunately, small-value gift cards are one of the most commonly abused features on free platforms. If $5 gift cards were available on free accounts, it would create opportunities for people to repeatedly create accounts and send gift cards to themselves. While we love making people smile, we also have to protect the platform from fraud and abuse.
Paid Plans Include Additional Perks
Access to $5 gift cards across supported brands is one of the added benefits included with paid plans. These plans are designed for users sending mail consistently and come with additional features and flexibility.
Flexible Redemption-Based Billing
On paid plans, users are not charged for the gift card portion unless the recipient actually redeems the card. This gives businesses more flexibility in how they use gift cards as part of their marketing and outreach efforts.
For example, companies may send a $5 coffee or thank-you gift as an incentive for someone to attend a meeting, watch a demo video, complete a call, or engage with a campaign. If the recipient never follows through or never redeems the gift card, the sender is not charged for that portion only the printing of the card.
This redemption-based model makes it easier for businesses to use gift cards strategically without taking on unnecessary upfront costs.
We understand the appeal of sending a quick $5 coffee, treat, or thank-you gift, but keeping lower denomination gift cards within paid plans helps us maintain a fair, reliable, and abuse-resistant experience for all users.
