Mail Merge Data/Variables

Customize nearly every single aspect of your mailers, tailoring them for each individual recipient, automatically.

Thanks.io is incredibly effective in managing data related to your recipients. Data serves as the fuel driving your business, and you can utilize it to automatically personalize mail for each recipient. Moreover, when you need to report events back to your CRM, additional identifiable information is often necessary to enable those automations.

Use these variables to schedule annual campaigns, customize QR codes on an individual basis, or insert art/photos, content, words, etc.

Therefore, you can attach variables to each recipient's record. This information can be added via CSV, manually entered, or automatically imported from API/Zapier/CRM:

The following variables are available to store in a recipient record:

  • Email

  • Phone

  • DOB

  • Custom1, Custom2, Custom3, Custom4

    • Customs 1-4 appear multiple times in this article. They can contain any text and are always stored with recipients.

Variables in Message Template QR Codes

In the QR code field, you can leverage variables as well. Instead of using % to surround each one, use a tilde ~.

For example:

Variables Specific to Dynamic Image Templates

Dynamic Images are Image Templates for postcards which are specially designed to change depending on who you send the card to. For example, a Google Street View of the property the card is being sent to can be shown uniquely for each card sent.

These Dynamic Images can use variables in all fields, like this:

dynamicCard-1

The address of the property is shown in the header. The image of the property the card was mailed to is shown.

The variables available for customizing dynamic cards are:

    • Only first name, regardless of how the recipient was added.
  • FIRST_NAME

  • ADDRESS2
  • CITY
  • STATE
  • ZIP
  • EMAIL
  • PHONE

  • VV _TITLE
    • Website Title. This data is captured from the webpage a new recipient was captured from via the thanks.io lead capture script.
  • VV_IMAGE
    • Website Meta/OG Image. This data is captured from the webpage a new recipient was captured from via the thanks.io lead capture script.
  • VV_LAST_URL

Use these variables to customize the header, subheader, QR code, background image, overlay image, or any of the fields you see fit to use them in. These variables use tilde surrounding each variable. e.g. ~FIRST_NAME~

Like so, using the settings for the postcard shown above as an example:
